PS Engineerings’s HUB50

From Screwdriver to Mobile App: PS Engineering’s HUB50 Technology Breakthrough Redefines Aircraft Audio

Defining the Need to Innovate

PS Engineering is a Tennessee-based company that manufactures general aviation and special mission control audio systems for aircraft. Their new product, called the HUB50, routes all aircraft audio communications in airplanes, jets, and helicopters, including crew-to-crew, tower-to-aircraft, and crew-to-passenger interactions. PS Engineering, known for equipment configured with a simple screwdriver, faced challenged with the vast amount of configurability the HUB50 offers. It was more than could be configured with a screwdriver. They needed a more sophisticated solution. Antrim Creek, a custom mobile app development company, was hired to build an iOS app that allows installers to wirelessly configure the HUB50 device via Bluetooth.

Gone are the days of confusing audio configurations

Antrim Creek collaborated closely with PS Engineering’s engineers to first understand the HUB50’s controls. PS Engineering provided helpful documentation on all of the HUB50’s controls and how users preferred to interact with them. We took this information and designed a user experience that simplifies the complex configuration and controls of the HUB50. Our goal was to ensure installers can easily adjust settings before and after installation without needing physical access to the device. By using Bluetooth, installers can securely access the HUB50’s controls, adjust them, and even save the configuration on their iOS device for later recall. Rather than having to manually configure the device inside an aircraft that may not be climate controlled, the installer can create the configuration in the comfort of an office, then connect with the HUB50 to load the configuration.

Revolutionizing the HUB50 configuration

By being able to configure more than 250 different parameters via the HUB50 iOS application, PS Engineering has disrupted their industry. Installers are loving the ease with which they can load configurations wirelessly at the hangar or on the ramp. As a leading mobile app developer, Antrim Creek was thrilled to be a part of this groundbreaking app for PS Engineering and we look forward to helping them innovate even more.

The Results

Aerospace companies have agreed that the “on-wing” configuration of the HUB50 using an iOS device is a quick and easy way to enter all mission parameters. Installers continue to be impressed with how easily they can adjust multiple parameters with a fingertip slider. Plus, the ability to save configurations has equaled huge time savings for them.
