Dosimetry is the science by which radiation dose is determined by measurement and calculation. Recording surveys of locations to determine radiation levels is an important requirement of many government entities, medical facilities, and various companies. Typically, when a technician records a survey of a location using a radiation meter, they perform the survey, then write down what they remember about the details of the survey. It’s inefficient and allows for incorrect information to be recorded based on human memory. CHP consultants had developed the Counts.Pro device that could be installed on existing radiation meters that would allow the measurements of the meter to be sent to a mobile device via Bluetooth. In addition to the radiation measurements, the mobile device could also record things such as GPS coordinates, date and time, etc. CHP needed a reliable mobile app to package with their Counts.Pro product.

We worked closely with CHP Consultants to understand what a radiation technician needs during a survey so that we could design the mobile app’s UX in a way that lent itself to making their life easier. We designed it so that the technician can see the measurements at a glance in the app during any point in the survey. We also focused on what a government entity or company would find useful to record during these surveys. In addition to hyper accurate radiation counts, times, and the GPS location, we also recorded the meter and probe being used. Plus, we added the ability for the technician to use their mobile device’s camera to take photos during their survey and make them available later. Our developers worked hand in hand with CHP Consultants’ product experts to establish a Bluetooth connection between the Counts.Pro mobile app and the Counts.Pro hardware device that is strong and reliable.
